Job Description
Working with the Patent, Trademark and Copyright Journal (PTCJ), will allow the intern to keep abreast of the most current and up-to-date IP cases, legislation, etc. The intern is actively involved in editing and writing articles which are published in the weekly IP journal. The intern also receives a temporary press pass which they will use to attend hearings on current IP issues that take place on the Hill. They will also attend other IP conferences and events that take place throughout the Washington, DC metro area. Previous interns have attended hearings with the House Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet, and Intellectual Property including:
• Oversight Hearing on “Patent Trolls: Fact or Fiction”
• Markup of the “Section 115 Reform Act of 2006”, to update copyright laws for digital music and licensing referendum
They have also attended conferences such as a:
• Conference on Nanotechnology and its relation to IP.
• DC Bar Intellectual Property Section Conference on the fair use of copyrighted works in the digital environment.
These are just a few of the interesting and exciting events that past interns have been able to get involved in. In fact, previous interns have been able to leave BNA with a portfolio of published IP articles. Anyone who is interested in pursuing a career in the IP field should definitely apply for an internship working with BNA’s PTCJ.

BNA Publications has a paid summer internship position, which consistent with the intern's skills, would include reporting on cases, legislation, PTO/Copyright Office developments, etc.

The emphases are on good writing skills and a concrete interest in IP.
