IIPSJ Personnel

 

Professor of Law at Howard University School of Law and the founder and Director of the Institute for Intellectual Property and Social Justice (IIPSJ), established in 2002.

IIPSJ was created to explore the relationship between intellectual property and social justice. Director Mtima takes the lead on most of the IIPSJ programs, including a set of programs associated with Howard University School of Law such as sponsoring relevant scholarship, involving HUSL students in IP courses and issues, assisting the HUSL Faculty in designing the IP curriculum, sponsoring student internships in IP law practice, and other programs such as organizing and conducting an annual CLE on IP and social justice for practicing lawyers.

Prof. Jamar assists Director Mtima in the various projects of IIPSJ, in particular working with students, on curricular issues, and on academic scholarship. Prof. Jamar also serves as the IIPSJ webmaster.

Prof. Spencer Boyer has taught at Howard University School of Law for more than three decades. He teaches Entertainment Law and is the faculty advsisor for SELSA (Sports and Entertainment Law Student Association) at HUSL.

IIPSJ Research Fellow in Residence 2010-2011

Ms. Sooknanan is a 2010 LLM graduate of George Washington University School of Law and comes to us from Trinidad and Tobago. As a scholar in residence Ms. Sooknanan will work on a variety of issues, developing position papers for IIPSJ, particularly in the patent area. She will also work on developing the IIPSJ Caribbean IP Program.

Through its Community Outreach and IP Education initiatives, IIPSJ is currently developing instructional and mentoring programs and establishing IP information conduits within targeted communities. Ms. Tucker is a 2009 graduate of Howard University School of Law

IIPSJ Research Scholar, 2009-

Mr. Nolley is a 2008 graduate of the University of Oregon School of Law and a member of the California Bar. As the IIPSJ Research Scholar, Mr. Nolley researches various issues on the implications of intellectual property on social justice. Mr. Nolley is also helping develop the IIPSJ online IP and Social Justice Library.
